I would like the children to be familiar with the United States & their capitals. I thought this video would be a cute & easy way for the kids to remember their capitals.

As you should have gotten the permission slip home a few days ago for the trip to “Butterfly World” on the 24th of Feburary. They are due back by the lastest this Friday in order for your child to go. If any parents want to volunteer they are more then welcome to come and join in on the fun. In order to get the childrens minds learning before we go. The students and I will be taking vitural field trips on the website

This can also be fun to for the children to do at home and still be learning.

Butterfly World

Today during class we talked and went over what the word RESPONSIBILITY meant to all of the children. They all had various different comments to make on the subject. They discussed being respondable and having chores simple to complex. I put a virutal pet hampster on the website you can play with it and feed him this can make the students being to have a small responsibilty by taking care of there online pet. :]

The students have been doing very well and are all very motivated quick learners. Today since the weather was nice I decided to have the children choose there favorite book and pick and area to sit down and read. This could be either on the playground, under a tree, or on the black top.  After the fun we will go right back into phonics and mathematics.

**If you get a chance ask your child what book they read and ask them to tell you what happened in the book it will help them work on there comprehension skills.

Weekend Homework/Review!

For the Science portion of our class, we are currently learning about the different animal environments & their external features that help them thrive in different habitats.

The student will investigate and understand that animals, including people, have life needs and specific physical characteristics and can be classified according to certain characteristics.

Key concepts include:

  • life needs (air, food, water, and a suitable place to live);
  • physical characteristics (body coverings, body shape, appendages, and methods of movement); and
  • other characteristics (wild/tame, water homes/land homes).

I have sent the students home with a study guide, which I would like them to go over this weekend, the guide contains the following information:

  • Animals, including people, have basic life needs, including air, food, water, and a suitable place to live.
  • Body coverings include hair, fur, feathers, scales, and shells.
  • Methods of movement may include walking, crawling, flying, and swimming.
  • Simple ways to classify animals are whether they are wild or tame
    • Wild: raccoon, hawk, squirrel, shark
    • Tame: dog, cat, sheep
  • Another way to classify animals is whether they live on land or in the water
    • Land: dogs have fur and legs that help them live on land
    • Water: fish have scales and fins that help them live in the water

Sample questions you may ask:

“What animals have fur to keep them warm in their cold habitat?”

“What animals have legs & What animals don’t?”

“Where would a lion live, the ocean or the desert?”

Some vocabulary words that will tied into this lesson:

Habitat: the natural environment of an organism; place that is natural for the life and growth of an organism: ex. a tropical habitat.

Wild: living in a state of nature; ; uncivilized; not tamed or domesticated: a wild animal; wild geese.

Tame: changed from a wild state; domesticated; a tame bear.

I would like the students to have an idea of the subject, as we will be covering it in depth throughout next week.

I look forward to hearing what the students have learned Monday morning!

As always, you may email me if you should have any questions regarding the lesson, or the study guide. :)

All the children have been doing very well in the class! I’m sooo proud! Tomorrow to reward the students there will be a dress down day!

I want to congradulate all of the parents for how wonderful all of there children are and how i’m so blessed to have so hard workign students in my class. They have been working really hard on there spelling words and are getting very quick at adding. Since they have been doing so well were going to start with going into a little more complex adding of numbers.

Today were going to have a little fun with writing and I want the children to describe what they did in a sentence of in a few of what they did during summer vacation and tell it to the class so the children can get to learn a little more about each other.  :]

*** HOMEWORK… I know that you are all very busy with work but it is important to review what im sending home with the children and give them confidence and help them achieve.

Today we’re going to go a little more in depth into numbers and simple adding. I will have the children practice writing their numbers, remember that the number 3 can be a little challenging for the students ;]. This will be a review for many of the kids but I think will be helpful as we will shortly enter into subtraction also.

For homework tonight the students will have a practice sheet with 2+2 and easier things to get there minds wondering!

Welcome!

Hello, welcome to my class room!

I’m very excited to meet and be with all of my wonderful new students and take them through the never ending world of learning. I would like the parents to be very much invovled and feel like they’re in the classroom with me. I’m making these blogs for there to be better understanding on what your child is learning throughout the day.

Today, and during the next couple days of class we will be going over the rules of the classroom. Classroom management is very important to me and  I think that it is very beneficial for me and the students for a better focused learning environment.

Today the children will be going through simple spelling words and doing small groups in centers so that they can begin to get to know their fellow students and become comfortable. The students will practice writing the words out and saying them outloud.

For homework they will have a take home sheet and will practice writing and spelling for a spelling test later on in the week.

I’m looking forward to meeting all of your children and I’m sure that this school year will be outstanding! :]
